One of Ghana’s leading lady of the big screen,Lydia Forson has come out to defend women who are feminists, explaining in a lengthy rant on Instagram what feminism is all about. Forson, who emerged as the Best Actress in Africa at the 2010 African Movie Academy Award, says feminism is not limited to only women, but men too.
“Feminism is all about fighting for equality irrespective of gender. If you are a man and you believe in this, you are a feminist,” she writes.
Unmarried Lydia posits that contrary to public opinion that feminists hate marriage, she upholds that they do not. “We don’t hate men, we just don’t like the abusive, oppressive and chauvinist type; we also don’t believe our world should revolve around them, if we don’t want to. We don’t hate marriage, we just don’t believe it’s a must for every woman, or there’s a timeline for when you should, just to please society,” she explains.
Probably passing a message to those who have been questioning her marital status at 32, in spite of her great success in her chosen career, the provocative black beauty says they owe no one explanation, that, they just want to live their lives the way they have chosen to.
“You don’t have to like what we stand for, but you have to respect our right to do so,” she added, emphatically.
