The Abia State chapter of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has revealed what President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration of June 12 as democracy has done to some people.
It would be recalled that Buhari had on Wednesday, announced the change of the Democracy Day date from May 29 to June 12.
Speaking with newsmen on Saturday in Umuahia, the state capital while reacting on the president’s declaration, the chairman of SDP in Abia state, Hon. Chidi Nwosu, said that Buhari’s proclamation has rubbished key actors that were involved in the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
He explained that Buhari’s action has vindicated that the people’s will would always stand, despite how long it takes.
According to the former Abia lawmaker, “That statement made by the President arising from NEC meeting, is a complete vindication that the peoples will must come to stand one day.
“Unfortunately, the 1993 presidential election won by Chief M.K.O Abiola, of blessed memory, has finally come to rest. That election was declared. The results were declared.
“And the winner announced by the most appropriate person that ought to declare the results of the election,the then chairman of National Electoral Commission, Professor Humfrey Nwosu”.
He added that, “The vindication also, was that SDP was accepted as the most popular party then, has also come to rest finally. To me, I’m very happy that we are completely departing from the effects of autocratic rule, occasioned by the military within that period.
“I’m also happy that most of the actors who supported that the annulment, are still living today.
” And what President Buhari has done, has rubbished these individuals. And the President has told them that their actions can never be contend any further.”
